The Let Go 'Hello'

Inaugural 4-Week Program for Guitarists of All Stripes

You're Ready

To start, let's cast away the labels: beginner, intermediate, advanced, etc.

They're not meaningless terms -- they provide us with a shorthand that helps order our world. But, they don't serve our ultimate purpose: to experience music, and the act of making music, without built-in limits to our enjoyment. These labels, if not used cautiously, can lead to an unfortunate series of but's, as in, "...but, I'm just a beginner."

If you're playing a guitar -- if you're holding it and using it to make sounds -- you're a guitarist (for at least as long as that's happening).

Re: first lessons, there is no such thing as one size fits all. Whereas you might remember how to play a few basic chords from your time in that alt-country band, someone else is wondering how, exactly, to hold the pick. Or, whereas you have a flexible schedule that affords a lot of time to practice, someone else is lucky to get ten minutes a day. So, I'll speak in general terms: No matter where you are or what your schedule is like, our first lesson is about building confidence and creating a roadmap for you to follow for the next four weeks — whatever your starting point is. We'll work on fundamentals — things like relaxation and breathing — and building your foundational musical vocabulary. And, from the start, we'll use songs as both the vehicle and catalyst for our work together. That work will be defined by small steps taken toward the larger goal: to stick with it, even when it's hard.

You actually need very little to improve -- not more of everything. Improvement hinges on consistency and quality of focus.

Hard work is a tribute to itself
